Filip Sendal (b. 1980, Gdańsk, Poland) is a visual artist, researcher, and lecturer. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (1999–2006) and since 2018 has been a faculty member at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Gdańsk, where he received his PhD in Art in 2020. He is a member of ERA ART Association of Artists Promotion.
His work explores the fragile relationship between the human body, memory, and the permanence of stone. Through photography, digital graphics, and printmaking, he merges human features with natural textures, creating symbolic images that oscillate between intimacy and monumentality. Faces trapped in rocks or fragmented bodies become metaphors of emotional burden, silence, and resilience.
Sendal has exhibited widely in Poland, with solo shows including Identity (2019–2020), Truth of the Surface – Surface of Truth (2022), and Knocking on the Stone’s Door (2023–2024). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions and was awarded First Prize at Gdańsk Graphic of the Year (2004). His practice is inspired by poetry and philosophy, engaging viewers in a dialogue on the limits of human experience and our deep connection with nature.
