My name is Kanrec Sakul (b. 1989), and I am a visual artist based in Košice, Slovakia. I am a self-taught artist. Thirteen years ago, I decided on a fundamental transformation of my identity—I adopted the name Kanrec Sakul, and since then, I have been fully dedicated to building my own autonomous visual universe.
My work has evolved from flowers into complex biomorphic creatures that act as mutations of everything I have experienced. In my paintings, I construct surreal microworlds with relative perspective where nature reclaims architecture. A distinctive element of my presentation is the titles of the works, for which I use my own "bastardized" version of Esperanto. This fictional language (seen in titles like Florbedo, Sukera Fumo, or Lumezurilo) completes the atmosphere of my universe and underscores its universality, while also emphasizing a certain strangeness and distance from reality.
A vital part of my practice is my relationship with materials. I prepare my own canvases by collecting, sewing, and layering old linen fabrics, giving the foundation a raw and tactile character. Painting remains an open-ended matter until the very last moment; I build it through translucent glaze layers until I achieve a desired expression on the border between meditation and expression. I have presented my work at exhibitions such as Florbedo (VUNU Gallery, 2026) and Sukera Fumo (Kunsthalle Košice, 2025), and at international art fairs including Volta Basel, SPARK Art Fair, and Feria Material.
