Artist bio, Grant John Muir also know as ‘’River Dog’’

Lives on a country estate (with his two farm dogs and an old cat), In Hinakura which is close to
the world renowned Wine Village of Martinborough.
• The artist is about to open a newly built gallery for the many visitors and tourist that come to
Martinborough wine village.
• The gallery Hinakura Art Gallery , HAG for short. The Artist and the Gallery (HAG) have websites
under construction with opening and launch dates the 20th March 2019.
Grant Muir aka RiverDog, has exhibited at Galleries through-out New Zealand and solo, and group
exhibitions in Cologne Germany. Including selection as a shortlisted artist for the Wallace art
awards in New Zealand and Fleurieu Art Prize in Australia.
Growing up studying the German expressionist and graffiti artist Jean Michel Basquiat, he brings
together these two diverse styles in a unique and personal way.
His paintings talk about his life, his life style and the landscape that surrounds him. Living in an
isolated part of New Zealand, the land and the environment have become a major subject for the
artist. The name River Dog originally a film documentary about the artist and his struggle to save
the river that runs around his property, from devastating pollution. The film received international

Grant Muir exhibits using a number of mediums large charcoal on paper drawings, oil on canvas
painting, and oil on sculptured chip board paintings. His style has been described as new
impressionism. Because it combines the emotion of expressionism with the capture of
atmosphere and light. His subjects are issues that face us all in contemporary life and the survival
of the new world.
