the title for the oil, pencil work on canvas, is satirical in its description ''modern awa'' it was only 40 years ago that every river in New Zealand was safe to drink & swim in. These once pristine rivers are now toxic with agricultural run off. Living with the Pahaoa river forming 3 boundaries of the artist property, the decline in the health of the river has been document by the artist. The modern river is now one of toxic algae that turn a rainbow of iridescence colour in the warm summers.
