I am an audio-visual journalist. My arts practice is centered around contemporary life - how we live today.
I work with images, video, soundscape, voice, 3D models & data clouds.
Recently I've been exploring the "liminal zone" - a space we cannot see with the naked eye; a place where the physical and digital world's collide.
The on-going project 'City Scans,' (presented here) utilizes ultra high-speed video to scan and capture the movement and rythym of people and objects through time. I focus on the dynamics of commuters and transportation systems in some of the world's largest cities; Tokyo, Hong Kong, London and Istanbul, revealing new perspectives on the urban landscape.
Other projects have produced long exposure 3D photogrammetric portraits and voice recordings; The Coal Face and Kings of the Underground - a study of the physiognomy (facial details) and memory of Welsh coal miners - exhibited at the Muxeum of Wales. I've experimented with photo-crushing of time lapse sequences; Ghost City. While "The Crossing" examined the world's busiest crossing in Shibuya, Tokyo in time lapse and "slow-lapse".
The digital installation (composed of points clouds, video + soundscape) explored the effect of social media algorithms on society during Covid.
Until 2012, I was based in Hong Kong and Tokyo. During that time, I carried out photo-journalsitic research in China that received several international awards and commendations. In Japan, I covered developments in robotics and, later, the Tōhoku tsunami and nuclear disaster before returning to the UK.
I work on local, national and international projects.
