Kanchan Porta-Panjabi is a Singapore-based multidisciplinary artist working across painting, textiles, ceramics, and material-based practices that include jewellery as wearable cultural form. Her work explores themes of migration, memory, belonging, and cultural heritage, drawing on over two decades of experience in fashion, jewellery, and material design.
Born in Kolkata to a Sindhi family and raised across Hong Kong, New York, and London, her practice is shaped by a life lived between cultures and a deep interest in how identity is formed through movement, tradition, and craft. Through research, material exploration, and engagement with craft knowledge systems, she develops works that translate personal and collective histories into contemporary visual language.
Her practice seeks to bridge contemporary art with traditional making, examining how cultural memory is preserved, transformed, and reinterpreted through material form.
