I am Karen, an internacional visual communicator, photographer and video producer. I have produced visual communication documented through photography and video since 2002.
I started my career in Mexico, my home country, where I graduated from communications and media, followed by a speciality course in photography in Florence Italy. I furthered my studies with a Master of Arts in Visual Communication at the Birmingham City University in the U.K. and a Master in Music Documentary at La Casa del Cine in Barcelona, Spain.
I presented my first video installation One Way Ticket at Birmingham City University as a final project after my MA in Birmingham, and then me and my colleagues from that MA produced an independent group exhibition where I presented my installation One Way Ticket.
I have worked in several multimedia projects for the London Opera House, Paris Opera House and Random Dance in London in collaboration with my mentor and artist Ravi Deepres.
I had a group exhibition where I presented an installation called A Valley Of Ice I See at Nave Lewis in Monterrey Mexico, consisting of two rooms one with sculptures and a second one like a dorm room with a video projection.
I have also done some commercial jobs, working for web magazines, fashion companies, multimedia productions, documenting different types of events, etc. photographing as much in a studio as well as in the field. Most recently I have been working as the head of social media, photographer and content producer for Your Living City Stockholm, the online magazine for the internationally minded Stockholmers, producing articles and photographs that are shared throughout all the magazine?s social media channels, the magazine and youtube.
Last year I had a solo photographic exhibition at Kaknäs tower in Stockholm. And most recently I participate in a group exhibition at Bryggeri Munkbron with my photography.
Furthermore, I have had works shown at the Saatchi Gallery in London and at Mitten Movie Project in Michigan USA, showing a photograph called Xilitla and the video part of my installation called A Valley Of Ice I See, respectively.
Nowadays I also freelance producing promo videos for brands, interviews and mini documentaries.
On a more personal note, I just recently married this summer, I live and work in Stockholm, I love to go out to the park every morning with my cat Minibar and to train lifting weights at the gym. My inspiration comes from the reflections on my own and other people's behaviours as well as my desire to awake other individuals form the conglomerated dream and for those individuals to acknowledge and embrace their own, unique and irreplaceable existence.
Kind regards
Karen
