I am Francesco Pegurri.
I am a 25-year-old boy, living, working, and dreaming in Sovere, a small village
in the province of Bergamo, northern Italy. Growing up I have always had a
great passion for both drawing and painting, in its various forms and expressions,
indeed I attended an Arts High School. During school-years I got really
interested in calligraphy and after getting my diploma, I came across the world
of tattooing. Thanks to this still ongoing experience, I had the chance to
improve on my calligraphy skills, especially precision, cleanliness, but also
fluidity, three mayor technical aspects that are the key elements of my art.
Apart from tattooing, which is my job, I started composing acrylic calligraphy
paintings on canvas, to which I have dedicated many years to the study of
shapes and brushstroke motions. This technique is done by working with flat
calligraphy brushes, of all dimensions. Such tools really allow me to get that
firmness, sticking to the rigour of calligraphy, that is really what fascinates
me the most about this technique. Furthermore, since more recent times, I carry
on with strong enthusiasm and curiosity oil painting. Both
techniques are stimulating me in understanding and shaping my identity as a
painter.
All my paintings illustrate reality. Especially, I like to portray landscapes and nature-related themes interpreting them through a calligraphic style. The reason behind the subjects that I choose
to represent is that I have always been influenced by the place where I was
born, Sovere. There, I developed a great passion for
mountains. I love hiking, trekking, and climbing, and I love sticking to nature. The
feeling of being surrounded by such majestic landscapes has inspired me in
doing my canvases. I go for the hunt of glimpses of mountains, sunsets, light reflections
on water, but also rural villages of the surroundings. I have an emotional attachment to these places. Through my canvases I try to do justice to the magnificent nature surrounding me. Beauty is in
all corners of our world, and I chose to represent the one that is closest to my heart.
