Altynai Osmoeva is an award winning multi-media visual artist and designer based in Kyrgyzstan. Creating unique and often experimental work, Altynai is free in her exploration and expression of ideas with various media; she works with textiles and fibers, especially felt and wool, furniture, fashion, graphics, performance, installation, sculpture, jewelry, light and video. Nomadic cultures, philosophy, traditional heritage and women are an exhaustible sources of inspiration for the artist. Altynai had graduated with honors from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, University Arts London. After graduation, she has travelled the world to research traditional textile practices and has founded ALTAI OSMO, a slow ethical label that handcrafts garments using traditional techniques and textiles. Although formally trained in fashion design, Altynai feels most comfortable with the broad possibilities of art. As a visual artist with love for handicrafts, she is interested in pushing traditional craft practices through invention and experimentations, searching modern forms and new possibilities. Altynai has exhibited her works internationally and received awards for her design works. She is a member of the World Crafts Council and Artist Union of Kyrgyzstan.
