About me My name is R. Govindan Rama (alias Nindan). I am not an academically qualified person in art, nor have I had any formal training in any branch of art or creativity. Furthermore, I am in a profession that has absolutely nothing to do with art. My artistic skills are purely inherited. I belong to the tenth generation of sculptors. This long lineage of creativity, or so to say, the DNA of my artistic descendants, I presume, is the source my creativity. To say that I am passionate about art would be an understatement. Right from my childhood I have been fascinated by the immense possibilities and the stimulating challenges that are involved in any creative process. My biggest aspiration has been to compete in a prestigious international arts contest. Well, now that I am here, my aspiration has been fulfilled. My specialization Sculpting is conventionally done on stone, bronze or wood. However, sculpting on plywood is a rarity – an unexplored yet wondrous terrain in the vast and delightful landscape of art. The past six years of my life have been spent in discovering exciting avenues and techniques to create masterpieces on a new medium. My creations are made out of plywood slices that are discarded mostly by carpenters. I gather scrapped pieces from multiple sources, and these varying shades enrich the aesthetic appeal of my creations. To ensure hygiene, I give an anti-termite treatment to the accumulated plywood before I begin my work.My specialization lies in amalgamating assorted plywood pieces that are dissected vertically (for a multi-layered base) and sculpting fascinating works of art out of them. Though distinctive and ingenious, this medium is overly intricate and far more challenging than traditional sculpting. It demands enormous amount of patience, practice and an intense eye for precision to achieve perfection.
