I was born in Sevastopol, Ukraine, by the Black Sea. These seascapes are anchored within me; they shaped my soul and my perspective on the world. While school provided me with the basics of drawing, it was art itself that truly called me. In 2017, I discovered watercolour—its weightless and its sometimes unpredictable nature. It was a revelation, love at first sight.
As a self-taught artist influenced by international watercolour masters such as Massimiliano Iocco, and David Poxon, I spent countless hours observing their techniques, experimenting, and letting water and pigments express themselves on the paper. Over time, I developed my own technique for painting waves, allowing me to capture their transparency and fluidity by giving the pigments freedom while maintaining overall control. Oil painting came later, it came out of desire to create more depth, more power of colours.
My paintings have become open windows into my world and my passion for the sea. Today, I paint with an intensity that comes from the heart, fueled by my memories of the Black Sea and my new encounters with the ocean.
At the end of 2022, I took the leap and exhibited my work for the first time at the Halles de Pau, France. The warm reception from the public was a breath of fresh air—a recognition that gave me wings. I continued to showcase my work at various exhibitions and art fairs, organizing my first solo exhibition at Passage Carnot in Pau in October 2024, followed by a second in March-April 2025 at the Serres-Morlaàs Library.
Exhibiting at the Carrousel du Louvre during the 2025 Art Shopping fair, and at Art Capital 2026 in the Grand Palais—where I received a distinction from the Société des Artistes Français—have been major milestones in my career. These moments allow me to share my art, my vision, a journey of a woman who found her path in art, and transformed her emotions into colours.
Artistically yours,
Hanna Meunier
