Andrea Meregalli, born in Seregno (MB) in 1977, is an architect, designer, and artist living and working in Monza. After obtaining his scientific high school diploma, he graduated with honors from the Politecnico di Milano in 2002. In the same year, he founded his own professional studio together with Maddalena Merlo, working on design at various levels. At the same time, he pursued personal research projects, exploring new creative directions.
For years, he worked without publicly sharing his creations until 2020, when, during the lockdown, he decided to present his work to the public. In that same year, he created Culomiao, a rubber-engraved stamp, and founded Edizioni Culomiao, an independent distillery of books, liqueurs, and other strictly self-produced and locally sourced items. Driven by deep curiosity and an experimental spirit, he soon began integrating digital tools into his research, eventually embracing artificial intelligence as a creative instrument.
He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Among the most recent in 2024, notable ones include This is the End, curated by Associazione AND at Milano Scultura in Villa Bagatti Valsecchi in Varedo and at the conference hall of Villa Reale in Monza; AI Intelligenze Artistiche, curated by Valerio Borgonuovo at MEET | Digital Culture Center in Milan; his solo exhibition Collective Psyche at Galleria Villa Contemporanea in Monza, curated by Vittoria Mascellaro; and the group exhibition THE GAME at Spazio Blue Train and The Kitchen Art Gallery in Milan, curated by Silvia Franceschi.
In 2023, he participated in the group exhibition The Rights from Future Generations at Villa Reale in Monza and in international events such as Scoletta dell'Arte: Digital Reform in Venice and the group show Dreaming Architectures in Turin. That same year, he exhibited three artist books at the 5th Biennale Oggetto Libro at ADI Design Museum in Milan. He also conceived Milano desAIgn Week and Monza desAIgn Week, events dedicated to AI-generated installations during the Salone del Mobile.
In 2022, he took part in BAW Bolzano Art Weeks with the work SitDownToLeaveAnIdea®, curated by Nina Stricker.
Alongside his artistic practice, he is involved in curating events and exhibitions, including Dry Notes, a series of musical evenings and wine tastings at Spazio OPOS in Milan, and the exhibition Le solite scritte by Giulio Alvigini. From 2021 to 2023, he participated in numerous talks and lectures at prestigious institutions such as Politecnico di Milano, NABA Milan, IED Milan, and the University of Milano-Bicocca, addressing topics related to artificial intelligence in design and art.
Andrea Meregalli’s work stands out for its ironic and paradoxical approach, exploring the boundaries between design, creativity, and technology, shedding new light on the relationship between art and artificial intelligence.
