Alessandra Martins is a Brazilian writer, visual artist, and researcher working across photography, video art, and experimental audiovisual practices. Her work explores memory, ancestry, identity, and Afro-diasporic narratives through a multidisciplinary approach that combines image, text, and sound.
She is currently based in The United States, where she studies Liberal Arts (Artes Liberais) and develops artistic projects in photography and video art.
Martins holds an MBA in Marketing with a focus on Branding from the University of São Paulo (USP), a degree in Languages (Portuguese Literature), and a specialization in Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous History and Culture. These backgrounds inform her interdisciplinary practice at the intersection of art, culture, and communication.
Her literary work includes the poetry book Voa, Sankofa, Voa, as well as publications in literary anthologies and journals, including volumes 43, 44, and 45 of Cadernos Negros (Quilombhoje). In 2024, she was invited by the Brazilian Ministry of Racial Equality to participate in the special edition Cadernos Negros – Brasil pela Igualdade Racial, launched during a parallel event to the G20 Summit.
Her first audiovisual work received an Honorable Mention from IberCultura Viva for the short film Comunidades Afrodescendentes (2018). In 2022, she participated in the FLUP Laboratory of Black and Indigenous Narratives in partnership with Rede Globo.
Her current artistic research brings together photography and video art in a body of work focused on memory, the body, and ancestral continuity.
