My name is Martin Lytke, I am a self-taught artist living and working in Germany
In 1999, I founded the artist group -CafeRembrandt- and sold a painting to the collection of Dr. Dr. Bartlett Haas who was a publisher
and pen pal of Gertrude Stein. He purchased one of my nudes and placed it over his bed.
From 2011 to 2014, I directed the Pilotenkueche AIR Space, a artist run project in the Baumwollspinnerei, Leipzig.
In 2012 I established the project space theMvsevm in Leipzig, curating exhibitions until 2022, with a focus on young and emerging artists.
My work has been featured in a variety of exhibitions in unconventional and prestigious spaces, including:
the legendary Forgotten Bar Project / Gallery im Regierungsviertel, Berlin
Museum Abbey Liesborn, in the group exhibitions -Stillstehende Sachen- a dialogue between 17th-century Dutch still lifes and contemporary art,
the group show MENSCHENBILDER, where contemporary portraits met 17th-century Dutch portraits.
Frankfurter Buchmesse, where I was invited to the Art Book section for my unique approach bridging print and original painting.
EROS UND THANATOS, at the Werkschauhalle, Spinnerei Leipzig exhibiting alongside artists such as David Lynch, Johannes Hüppi and Samuel van Hoogstraten.
Beyond painting, I have explored other mediums, including: A light installation at the Luminale Light Festival, Frankfurt (2014).
Participation in Tools of the Ape, a group show dedicated to the -NewMedia- movement curated by Anne Fellner & Burkhard Beschow.
As a curator, I organized several group exhibitions, including:
Betriebsausflug Leipzig / Hamburg
Wurzeln weit mehr Aufmerksamkeit widmen, Familie Montez im Exil
Kaiserdamm, an intimate exhibition in a private Berlin collection, curated by Galerie Ulf Wetzka.
An artist film screening at Deptford Cinema, London, with Seeta Muller and 14 artists from all over Europe.
Since 2012, I have initiated numerous exhibitions through my project space -theMvsevm- fostering dialogues inbetween Leipzigs vibrant and international art scene.
