Born in Grottole (Matera) Nisio Lopergolo studied art in Bari and completed his training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. During his career he has combined artistic practice and teaching. He has exhibited his works by him in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Some of his works, which have won in competitions for sculpture, are permanently exhibited in public places.
He currently owns a ceramic workshop in Grottole, his native town, and a sculpture and ceramic shop in Matera near the 'Sasso Barisano'.
Nisio Lopergolo's artistic production moves on three fronts: sculpture in terracotta, wood and reinforced concrete; ceramics, clay objects (garden pots, jugs, plates for food), favors, relief panoramas and glazed majolica; and finally his pictorial production, surreal paintings with dreamy shapes.
In 2017, with the work Attesa inerte (Wick technique. Clay, enamels and pure gold; 95 X 25 X 45 cm), Nisio Lopergolo was the absolute winner, in the sculpture section, of the Waiting for Florence Biennale competition of the Art Gallery Internazionale Porta Coeli Foundation, which allowed him direct access to the 11th edition of the Florence Biennale in Florence. On the occasion of the Florence Biennale, Nisio Lopergolo won the 5th Lorenzo il Magnifico Prize, in the ceramics section.
In 2018 he won the 2nd Prize at the BIBART International Biennial of Art in Bari with the works Mnemosyne (ceramic, clay, enamels and gold; 36 X 33 X 19 cm) and Peccato Originale (ceramic, clay, enamels and gold; 40 X 25 X 15 cm).
