b. 2003, Shanghai, China.
Studies and lives in New York, USA.
Huaijin is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans across film installation, sculpture, performance, writing, and digital art. With a background in fashion and theater, she usually brings her conceptual research into her “scenic installations”, diving into the absurdity of the modern world, including collective loneliness, innate animality, disciplines of the fashion industry, etc. Through theatrical imagery and surreal myth-making, she dissects the control force behind us, in society, in relationships, and within ourselves. She constantly returns to historical events, fiction novels, and modern critiques for artistic queries.
Mockery is a core part of her work. Through satire and parody narratives, she uses dark humor and exaggeration to highlight the absurdities and contradictions of the world around them. By poking fun at the powerful and exposing their flaws, she wants to inspire change and encourage viewers to question their own beliefs and assumptions. Moreover, as a force of resistance, it allows her to rebel against control, and to present the farce on stage, in a beautiful, theatrical, yet silent way.
She is currently a BFA candidate at New York University, USA.
