A Dreamlike Narrative Painting - The Artist's Line since 2014
Franco-Tunisian visual artist born in Tunis in 1974 and living in Paris. He studied art history at the Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts de Tunis from 1994 to 1998, earning a Master's degree in Arts and Sciences, before continuing his training at the Créapole school in Paris, where he earned a specialization certificate in visual communication in 2000. In 2015, he resumed his studies and earned a Master's degree in MEEF1 (Teaching, Education, and Secondary Education) in Visual Arts from the University of Paris 8.
In his work, Walid Lemkecher develops a personal universe inspired by classical dance, performance, and cinema, as well as influences from countries such as Russia, India, his own Eastern origins, and his life experience.
Each painting becomes a mise-en-scène, a visual spectacle that the artist presents to us. As the choreographer of his paintings, Walid Lemkecher meticulously selects each element, demonstrating an attention to detail that gives his works a rarity and finesse, like that of a goldsmith creating an ornament. In his painting, he embodies both the jeweler and the couturier, merging his diverse artistic passions.
In his productions, Walid Lemkecher elevates women and their femininity, whether muse, dancer, or actress, embodying both sensuality and strength, mysterious or melancholic beauty, thus captivating the gaze of his viewers. His female figures possess psychological depth, and his works, treated with theatricality, offer themselves to our gaze, evolving according to his inspirations, his research, and his personal quest. They offer us a dreamlike vision of a fantastical universe rising to celestial dimensions.
In his creative process, the artist also incorporates video to illuminate his paintings. He stages himself in choreographed presentations, thus establishing a dialogue between himself and his canvas. The latter becomes a reflection of his artistic identity, unfolding his universe and offering the viewer an immersive visual spectacle.
