Kudi, born on November 13, 1993, in Bauchi, Nigeria, is currently practicing in Cambridge and London. A multidisciplinary artist, Kudi works across various mediums, including charcoal, oil stick, oil paint, and watercolor. He is best known for his enigmatic and visceral paintings that captivate and provoke thought.
Kudi’s practice brings sharp attention to recurring themes, focusing on the head as the center of the human condition and a mirror of human expression. His use of color and context acts as a reflection of the society around him. Kudi’s unique paintings address the challenging modernity of man's relationship with consciousness alongside technological advancements. His works are primitive yet familiar, approachable and bold in color, yet simultaneously repulsive, as if held captive in a space searching for definition. His paintings create a world where viewers are caught in a cycle, seeing themselves and others, sometimes failing to see at all. This provokes questions about our subconscious as humanity wrestles with a new consciousness intertwined in the everyday.
Kudi's work is included in notable collections such as the UBS Art Collection in London, the West Collection in Pennsylvania, the British Council in London, the Massey Foundation in New York, and The Silvie Fleming Collection in London. He has exhibited with prestigious institutions, including the Louis Vuitton Foundation, Copeland Gallery, and has had a site installation for Frieze London.
