Mons Jorgensen is a multidisciplinary artist based in London. Grounded in myths, legends and fairy tales Mons merges everyday narratives with bigger social subject matter. The imagery that European Mythology evokes in her mind informs her work. She paints, prints, draws and she makes use of props, masks and her body to create still and moving images. She taps simultaneously into the tradition of fine art and its tropes as well as the shortcuts of vernacular iconography to develop her own visual language. Her ideas are constantly bounced between various 2D and 3D media, and it is via this ongoing process of self-reference that she visually articulates her thoughts.
She sees art as a language with a power to imbue our physical world with meaning, super-imposing a cultural layer and creating an alternative space for debate. Through her work she hopes to contribute to the conversation in our shared virtual library of images.
Mons has been awarded a MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in London where she won a Graduate Art Prize (2019), a BA (Honours) of Arts in Painting at Camberwell College of Arts (2010) and earlier in her career an MA in Governance & Global Affairs at Leiden University. In 2019 Mons Jorgensen was selected by Saatchi Art London to be shown at The Other Art Fair. She has taken part in collective exhibitions in London, Athens and Seoul and her work is kept in private collections across the world.
