In my work, I reconsider the question of Mimesis, traditionally related closely to realism art. My picture language consists in the false pretense that my paintings copy nature.
I start out with a subject matter designed and drawn in a digital medium like photoshop. I create my own idealized view – in this case of a cabbage field – solely on a computer screen.
I then begin to take pictures and assemble dozens of them to get as close as possible to my own perfect view. After having assembled and designed my subject matter in photoshop, I adjust matching light and value conditions on all the different pictures before I start to paint my creation in oil paint.
My artistic goal is to virtually design a piece of nature and pretend with the technique of realism art, that the viewer sees an existing part of a cabbage field.
To fulfill my artistic goal, I create a paradoxon by taking advantage of a false pretense lying in realism art: that it is coping nature.
