Colombino Clay is a research project through clay founded by Maria Teresa Furnari.
Born in Messina in 1984, I moved to Milan in 2003. After years of working in design and iterior photography, in 2020 I felt the urge to explore a new medium and instinctively turned to clay — it was love at first touch.
Working with clay reconnects me with my deepest self and becomes a way to investigate my ancestral places and the surrounding territory.
My training began by alternating between wheel-throwing courses and workshops on self-producing materials. In 2022, I joined "The Research and Development Trip in Chiapas" with the indigenous Tzotzil community of Amatenango. This experience deepened my interest in ancestral ceramic practices and inspired the next chapter of my journey with clay.
Today, I focus on creating unique sculptural pieces that combine modeling and wheel techniques. I pay particular attention to the self-production of glazes, which I develop through the collection, processing, and transformation of natural materials.
Each piece becomes an artifact of the territory where I choose to work — a tangible synthesis of its geological and cultural history.
