Deborah Forbes is an artist, post-secondary instructor, community educator, and published writer. Her work has been exhibited across Canada and the USA. Forbes has taught art histories, critical theory, art education, and art for early childhood at Medicine Hat College for 30 years. Forbes has been a Public School Trustee for more than 32 years.
Forbes’ research interests include methodologies for building creative confidence in the Anthropocene Epoch, Indigenous Ways of Knowing, the history of contemporary notions of ‘princess,’ and decolonizing art history. These interests have taken her to Czech Republic and Slovakia, Italy, USA, and China. Forbes was awarded a PhD from University of Westminster, London, Centre for Research Education, Art, and Media, in 2024.
In 2022, Forbes received a major Canada Council Grant (Explore Create) to develop Sea Jellies, Next Generation, an interactive installation work including video, an original soundscape by Whitley and Sakamoto, 7 steel sculptural figures.
