Comment : After training at ESMI in image production for the video game, film and publishing industries, he
explores a constant dialogue between emerging digital and traditional practices, never ceasing
to confront them and unite them.
While he embodies his multiple creative personalities, tending towards his identity remains an
absolute in itself. His pseudonym and project, Par ∫ Défaut, embodies this, as well as a deliberately
marginal and subversive posture of the artist’s recent idea. This approach is manifested in a
production whose commitment to an art of excellence is tried out to the curiosity.
Since his first solo exhibition in Bordeaux in 2015, Julien Fesil ∫ Par-Défaut has not only shown his
artworks in France but also internationally, notably at the MISP (Museum of 20th–21st Century Art)
in Saint-Petersburg (Russia). He has also participated in renowned fairs such as the Salon des
Artistes Français at the Grand Palais in Paris, Art Basel Miami (festival off) & Artexpo New York in
the USA.
In 2018, he founded «Le Chevalet sans tête» workshops/artspaces in Bordeaux, an initiative that
brings together creative spaces made available to multidisciplinary artists as well as a set of
preparatory classes and apprenticeships dedicated to both to professionals and young public.
According to Julien Fesil ∫ Par-Défaut, opening his workshops is a civic and militant act. He
is a mediator of artisanal know-how - as evidenced by his mastery of oil painting - and
advocate for an opening of the visual arts to dynamic subcultures, which will shape the
academicism of tomorrow.
