Artist Profile
Roxana Esmaili is an Iranian contemporary mixed-media artist based in Germany. Her artistic practice combines painting, photography, collage, and elements inspired by Persian miniature traditions to explore the relationship between memory, identity, and cultural heritage.
Her work focuses primarily on portraiture, transforming personal and historical narratives into layered visual experiences. By integrating ancient Persian motifs with contemporary materials and expressive painting techniques, she creates works that investigate the resilience of women, the transmission of memory across generations, and the dialogue between East and West.
Esmaili's paintings often merge realistic faces with symbolic textures, fragments of historical imagery, handwritten marks, and abstract surfaces. Rather than documenting reality, her portraits reconstruct emotional and cultural memories, inviting viewers to reflect on displacement, belonging, and the preservation of identity in a rapidly changing world.
Alongside her independent studio practice, she has led creative workshops for women and children, believing that art is a powerful medium for communication, healing, and cultural exchange.
Through mixed media, Esmaili seeks to bridge tradition and contemporary expression, creating artworks that honor Persian visual culture while addressing universal human experiences.
