Ksenia Ermakova is a contemporary artist based in the Netherlands.
My practice is a sustained exploration of the perception of time, how it is felt before it is understood, how it leaves its trace in a body, a space, a surface. This is a perception research born as a response to a feeling of alienation: of feeling at home nowhere, neither in the country I was born in and had to leave, nor in the one I have chosen. Alienated from everywhere, yet trying to find a home within this feeling in motion.
My earlier works turned to the body as the first place this sensation could be felt. More recently, my research has moved further into the texture of that sensation itself: the felt fragility of time, and the attempt to recognize why it feels this way. Currently I work mostly in painting and have previously worked with textile and performance, each medium offering another way to approach the same question.
I returned to my art practice after several years spent within a broken feeling of the world, where the usual closeness, unity, and sense of belonging became unreachable, years that, in retrospect, only deepened my need to work with this chaotic, unsystemizable fragility.
