I am Mohammed El Hajoui born in Morocco in 1995, when I was two years old I moved to Italy with my family, where I now live.
I am an artist who works with the memory of his origins with the aim of enhancing and breaking down the stereotype, currently working in the team of Fabrica (artistic residence in Italy).
In 2022 I won a special competition of Arte Laguna in Venice that gave me the opportunity to attend the artistic residence of Fabrica, and commissioned me to realize my project Radici, a very significant work for me.
In 2019 I started working on my personal project entitled Egira (which means migration - displacement), a collection of artistic slabs built with drawings and models reminiscent of Morocco. Egira is built around the archetype of the door, a place of transit where you can welcome the mystery, open up to new visions, and try to reveal an abyss. Following the dictates of Arab (Islamic) architecture revisited in a contemporary key, the doors are the result of a precise and meticulous work. Abstract geometric patterns and poor materials like paper are used to make spaces appear and disappear through the overlap of several hand-carved sheets.
The need to represent doors arises from the intrinsic and personal need to welcome, to open up to different cultures in a dynamic reality for which movement is a necessity.
In 2018 I obtained the academic diploma of Graphic Design & Art Direction at NABA in Milan.
