DINO
DE SIMONE
Was born in Lecce (1949); while he was studying
architecture in Naple and Venice he decided to devote himself to painting. He
attended Aldo Rossi’s lessons in Venice and started an intensive production
with the objective to investigate the continuous metamorphosis of the city. His
paintings are created by the juxtaposition of objects related to contemporary
architecture. Specifically, De Simone focuses on the seventies, striving for a
synthesis of the most significant avant-garde languages, in particular
surrealism and symbolic abstraction.
What interests De Simone is the relationship between
artificial and natural, the multi-ethnical reality of modern European cities.
His ideas arise during his walks and are soon fixed in water colours on a small
drawing book, before being elaborated and transformed into oil paintings.
Mostly referring to David Hockney
(cubism-surrealism-mittel - european abstraction) he actually sums up the
Italian Painting of the XX century as a whole and updates it in the light of
some more recent painters. He defines himself “a painter who studied as an
architect” and actually in his paintings there is the continuous search for a
formal logic
.
