Will Budgett (b. 1993, Oxfordshire, UK) is a self-taught sculptor whose work explores the dynamic relationship between light, shadow, and form. Drawing inspiration from the grace and fluidity of ballet, his abstract sculptures, when illuminated by multiple light sources, cast shadows that reveal identifiable shapes. The contrast between his often industrial sculptures and the elegant figurative shadows creates a dialogue between stillness and motion. By working with light from the very start, he allows projected silhouettes to guide the physical construction, responding in real time to the shapes cast on surrounding surfaces, which allows for such fluidity in formand for each work to be so unique. Budgett’s work has been exhibited across the globe, most recently exhibiting as a primary artist at the Bristol Light Festival, and before that at the Florence Biennale XV (where he received the Lorenzo il Magnifico Prize for Sculpture), the London Biennale, as well as other exhibitions at galleries in the UK, USA, NZ, Kyrgyzstan & Spain.
