Zosen Bandido is a Buenos Aires–born visual artist and researcher specializing in urban culture, currently living and working in Barcelona. With a career spanning more than three decades, he has established himself as a significant figure within the international urban art and graffiti scene.
From an early age, he developed a strong connection to urban culture through skateboarding before discovering graffiti in his teenage years. Deeply influenced by the Punk movement and the “Do It Yourself” ethos, he began producing independent fanzines and self-published works as a young artist. Initially self-taught, he later pursued formal art studies at the Escola La Llotja in Barcelona, where he earned a Higher Degree in Plastic Arts and Design.
Since the early 1990s, Zosen Bandido has been an active member of Barcelona’s graffiti movement and has continuously created murals throughout his career. Over the years, he has developed both small- and large-scale mural projects across Europe, Asia, North America, and South America, working on personal commissions as well as collaborative and community-based participatory projects.
Alongside his artistic practice, he is also dedicated to the research, education, and dissemination of urban art culture. He regularly delivers lectures, workshops, and educational programs focused on the history and evolution of graffiti, particularly the emergence of the New York graffiti movement in the early 1970s, its expansion to Europe through Hip Hop culture, and the later development of contemporary street art and large-scale muralism.
As part of his research work, he conceived, wrote, and directed the documentary series Fanzilona, produced by CaixaForum+, which explores fifty years of alternative and independent creative culture in Barcelona.
Zosen’s multidisciplinary practice encompasses illustration, painting, ceramics, documentary filmmaking, publishing, and curatorial work. A notable aspect of his career is his long-standing collaboration with artist Mina Hamada, with whom he has produced mural projects and exhibitions internationally.
During his residency at the La Escocesa Production Center in Barcelona, he created and coordinated mural festivals, curated exhibitions, and organized concerts and live performances. His work has been exhibited extensively in galleries, institutions, festivals, and cultural events across Europe, Asia, North America, and South America, consolidating an artistic trajectory of more than 30 years dedicated to urban painting and contemporary visual culture.
