Nighttime
atmosphere is a borderline one, transforming recognizable outlines and opening
us up towards the other-worldly. To enter the night is the same as stepping
into the undefined, unconscious, covert. The realm of night is risky because
night bears dreams and death. It is prone to deceit and conspiracy, equally
leaning towards the monstruous and wondrous. How to capture the night in a
photo studio? How to coax it to be(come)
a limited ambiance of creation or a background to a portrait? A challenged set
in such a way came as a spontaneous continuation of working on street
photography and the nighttime rides series. I was interested in what a portrait
might look like as a variation of the nighttime street topic: a portrait in
movement, a portrait as an excrept from a not-yet-shot movie, an out-of-place
portrait, a face escaping from a portrait, a portrait with faces falling off
from it like masks or expressions levitating around a portrait.
