This work is an endlessly moving Japanese painting, an abstract expression of Japan's cultural hopes inspired by a number of large works from some 300 years ago.
I always have trouble categorizing this work.
In 2024, I experienced the death of a relative of mine, and I noticed that even after death, the person was talked about in many places.
“People think of others regardless of their presence or absence.”
This became one of the eternal themes that I ask through my artwork.
From there, the artwork “umu” series was born.
Since this series questions the presence or absence, it is a work of simultaneous coexistence by contrasting the analog depiction of a surface that is always present with a CG endless video of background that can be turned “on” or “off” depending on the power source.
The production was created using “Sumi-ink”, “gold leaf”, which are mainly used in Japanese painting, and CG, which he has experienced in animation production in Japan.
Furthermore, the background CG moving image display system uses technology developed by NAKANO.
The originally developed moving image display technology is intentionally composed using only a simple moving image playback system in order to achieve a permanent presence, which is the purpose of the work. This is because he concluded from his experience in video production that this is the only way to keep the digital part of the work from becoming obsolete in the fast-evolving world of technology.
Traditional depiction techniques and a simple proprietary system form the entire work, which is both old and new, shaped by a special frame registered as a utility model in Japan.
