This artwork was created against all the violence against women in my country with their roots in traditions and old customs. This violence is thought to be the correct way to treat women in the mind of the ones who exercise it.
By the end of 2019 there were many incidents covered by media on murdering young girls and women in Iran just because they acted not according to tradition and wanted to be free. One of them (Romina Ashrafi) was murdered with a sickle by her father in a village. That was my inspiration for the artwork. I painted sickles as a part of the veil that's covering the woman's hair, to describe how religion and tradition is not only NOT making these women feel safer but is indeed a source of threat and induce violence. And in the background I painted part of a house. That represents HOME in which one must feel safe and calm, just contrary to how Romina felt. It is a disaster to be threatened and killed in a place that's meant to make one feel safe!
