This work dives into the themes of self-concealment, transformation, and the concept of "fashion as a mask." Here, identity is a hierarchical game: the ornate green bodice acts as a structural shield, while the swirling mass above suggests a submerged emotional landscape—a heavy tide of thoughts and memories replacing the rational head.
The title The Sea Above points to a poetic inversion: placing something vast and fluid where the "anchored" self should be. Yet, despite the obfuscation, a single eye peeks through, a reminder that the true essence persists even when hidden behind the layers of our own social costumes.
The Process:
A ritual of assembly and dissolution. I combine hand-painted fragments with magazine cutouts in a temporary physical collage. Once scanned and digitally processed, the work is dismantled.
