Ribbon / part 2
Second picture out of a series of three mixed media artworks (drawing + photo background)
Medium: printed on fine art paper
Year: 2025
Science background: like the picture Ribbon / part 1
Content: The second image in the three-part series represents the phase of growing up and adulthood. At the center of the image is the bare belly of a young woman and her trousers. Attached to one of the belt loops is a red bow, symbolizing her emerging and self-determined sexuality. The ribbon of life, which in the first image was still playfully discovered by the child, takes on a new meaning here: it becomes a sign of physicality, identity, and relationships.
Another comic panel shows a hand carrying several gifts. Each gift is tied with a red ribbon. These ribbons represent encounters, relationships, and the many connections that develop throughout life. The motif of giving gifts refers both to giving and receiving—pointing to intimacy, trust, and exchange.
In a further panel, a red, wavy gift ribbon appears. It functions as a connecting element between the images in the series: it links back to the ribbon in the first image—childhood—and at the same time leads toward the third image, which will represent old age. The ribbon thus becomes a visual line of time running through the entire life.
As in the first image, one comic panel is deliberately left empty. This empty space opens a place for the unspoken: for experiences, decisions, and turning points that are not visibly depicted but are nonetheless part of a life story. The image therefore marks a phase of intensity and movement—a time in which the ribbon of life continues to unfold and take on new meanings.
