As virtual realms become increasingly integrated with ‘reality’ as we thought we knew it, art will inevitably do the same. You can see a new series of mixed reality 3D installations, P409.
Mixed reality (MR, sometimes referred to as hybrid or augmented reality) is a product of the merging of real and virtual worlds, allowing artists to create new environments and visualizations where physical and digital objects coexist in real time. P409 is a 3D projection into a concrete object, revealing a fully realized immersive digital environment.
These 3D realms feature unique stores and characters equipped with styles selected by fashion designers from the NUW store. The characters are created using the latest 3D body scanning technology, not unlike what is used in contemporary video games.
The mixed reality scenes tell a complete story, each environment like its own episode in a TV show. However, unlike older forms of 3D media, this level of immersion must be experienced live. Through the use of a simple Instagram filter (no special download required), one can witness the merger of digital realities with concrete objects with their own eyes.
However, these installations aren’t going to pop up and disrupt your social media feed, they must actively be sought out. The mixed reality installations will be hidden in various places throughout the city, accessible only by clues and coordinates. The goal of P409 is simple: find all the rooms and complete the story.
