The painting was not created with
artificial intelligence. It is a digital oil painting, executed with a digital
brush, and therefore constitutes a true work of craftsmanship. The composition
is divided into two major sections—an upper and a lower part. Together, these
elements form an otherworldly landscape whose horizon stretches into infinity.
While abstract in its overall vision, the imagery is deeply rooted in real
nature. Both the upper and lower landscapes depicted are based on actual
locations, specifically inspired by the breathtaking scenery of Lençóis
Maranhenses National Park, which is rendered in a realistic manner.
Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (Parque
Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses) is located in the state of Maranhão in
northeastern Brazil, east of the Baía de São José. Established as a protected
area on June 2, 1981, the park covers 155,000 hectares, encompassing 70
kilometers of coastline and an interior of undulating sand dunes. During the
rainy season, the valleys between the dunes fill with freshwater lagoons, their
drainage prevented by impermeable rock layers beneath. The park is home to
diverse species, including four endangered ones, and has become a popular
destination for ecotourism. In July 2024, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World
Heritage List in recognition of its exceptional beauty and unique natural
environment.
The
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a
specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) with the aim of promoting world peace
and security through international cooperation in education, arts, sciences and
culture. It has 194 member states and 12 associate members, as well as partners
in the non-governmental, intergovernmental and private sector. Headquartered in
Paris, France, UNESCO has 53 regional field offices and 199 national
commissions. The organization prominently helps
establish and secure World Heritage Sites of cultural and natural importance.
This extraordinary natural wonder
and rarity are precisely what the painting seeks to visualize, emphasizing them
through the duality of its two great sections. Together, they merge into an
ethereal landscape whose infinite horizon symbolizes the boundlessness of
nature’s beauty, harmony, magnificence, and genius. It serves as a reminder of
what humanity ought to preserve—even if only in art—for in the future, nearly
all natural wonders may disappear as a result of human activity, including this
remarkable national park.
It is also worth noting the park’s
strong ties to popular culture. It has served as a backdrop for the Brazilian
film The House of Sand and was featured in the Indian Tamil-language
film Enthiran in the song Kadhal Anukkal. More prominently, its
landscapes were used to represent the planet Vormir in Marvel’s blockbusters Avengers:
Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). In 2022, the
musician RY X also recorded a concert within the park.
