Portraiture has been part of the human experience for millennia. Initially reserved for kings, queens, and the aristocracy, the democratization of technology over centuries has made it so that, nowadays, anyone with a smartphone can create a portrait with the tap of a button. But where does this democratization end and what will be the next class of subjects to gain access to portraiture?
“Enter The Machine 3.0” expands the definition of portraiture to include digital entities, such as files, applications, information systems, and, eventually, AIs. As a "portrait studio for digital entities," Enter The Machine 3.0 is a contemporary analog to the centuries-old tradition of subjects coming to an artist’s studio to have their portrait made, except in this case, the subjects are digital rather than corporeal.
