First Day of the Dead Altar created in Virtual Reality in the world, dedicated to Frida Kahlo.
For this piece I was inspired by my Mexican roots, the day of the dead, which is the most important or significant festivity in my Mexico. The Day of the Dead reminds us that one day we will no longer be here, it reminds us that today is the time we have to enjoy life. According to tradition, the altar is supposed to be a portal for loved ones who are not with us, so that they can come one day of the year to enjoy again what they would like in life and to accompany us, to meet with us. We make altars for the people we love, and that we want to be close to us for one more day each year.
Everything on the altar has a meaning. The salt purifies the dead soul, the water and food for them to drink and eat for the long journey that the deceased make, the light to illuminate their arrival, the representation of the dead with sugar skulls, the cut paper so they can breathe through it on earth,a portrait of the loved one, and the things they liked in life. Each and every one of those elements are essential in a Day of the Dead Altar.
