Pabst’s
film “Pandora’s Box” is a cultural product of Germany’s interwar period. While
a lot can be said about this great film, my study focuses on the characters’
inner composition. There is something grotesque in them, owing perhaps to the
historical time the film was made. Driven by their desires and
determined to fulfil them at any cost, these filmic characters come, go, and
return to similar predicaments. Their journey is without an end because their
desire is endless (end comes at the price of their own annihilation).
The visual composition of the video focuses on this repetitive
movement without an end. The music retains its ominous, grotesque, and at the
same time, appealing quality.
