The Victim is the protagonist of a conflict that can be manifested as the people captured in war, or the women in patriarchal and traditional societies who are deprived of their basic rights, the men and women who have been raped or have been subjected to violence. It can as well those who hold a sexual identity of opposite gender rather than the gender of the body that they were born with, they don’t know anymore to which gender group, women or men they belong, or it can be as well someone who is diagnosed with cancer…
The first thing that comes to her/his mind is: “why me?”
This arrangement offers an opportunity to rethink and look into some major issues from another angle. This is the main characteristic of humankind to consider their own problems as the most important ones and consider other people’s problems less grave until the time that they are caught into a similar condition.
In this arrangement, to illustrate the concept of the victim, a bright mirror-like ball is surrounded by sharp, threatening and black elements. I tried to place the people in the victim's position when they stand in front of the ball and see their own faces reflecting in the conflict.
This arrangement depicts the story of the victim. When we look at it from outside, we look at a victim who is in a difficult situation and we can easily move away and continue with our lives, but by entering into this arrangement and observing ourselves in the victim position then everything changes… Now we are involved, we are victims…
I designed this arrangement with a sincere wish that this famous poetry of the great Persian Poet, Saadi, which is imprinted on the headquarters of United Nations, would be deeply comprehended and realized:
All the sons of Adam are parts of one single body,
They are of the same essence,
When time afflicts us with pain in one part of that body,
