The four Seasons. Sound Haikus for Rosario is a sound installation that emerged during 2020 and confinement, and was awarded a Creation Grant from the National Arts Fund of Argentina in 2021.
The unusual stillness that occurred during the quarantine allowed other sounds - previously silenced by the noises produced by traffic, construction sites and machines - to be perceived, opening us to a new sensory listening experience.
I wondered what sounds characterized Rosario (my hometown) and which ones announced each season of the year. The research and sound recording were developed for a year and a half, opening other horizons in me: I began to connect with the cyclical nature of nature, the emotions and feelings that occur in each season, the colors, smells and textures that it offers. every moment and what invitations they suggest to us. And this profound simplicity instantly reminded me of haiku.
I decided to make four wooden boxes that would contain the sound work of each season and objects collected during the various cycles. I also wrote haikus and selected one for each box. In turn, the work can be accompanied by the video of the inauguration performance “Climate Change” held at the Estévez Museum in Rosario in December 2021.
