Taming the dragon. The ego is a dragon in the life of some, yet it is what gives us the strength to exist in the world. The trick is to tame it with the arm of sensuality and not the arm of force.
One could also say: "Capitalism is a runaway horse, it can easily get out of control. But if you hold the reins firmly, it goes where you want it to go". P. Aghion.
This sculptural work symbolizes many victories, including those over oneself. This spirited horse can easily get out of control. .... This dance with our ego is sensual, the strength of the power is transformed into elasticity, tenderness and softness. The bodies are voluptuously intertwined, to the point where the rider's legs are confused with the dragon's tail.
The play offers many other readings:
- Who is taming whom?
- Is it the ego or the conscience?
- Are you taming your partner?
- Can you tame an idea? - Can life and death be tamed?
- Can the virus be tamed by governments?
- To be alive, must you tame your body and mind?
- What dragons have you tamed?
This first sculpture is composed of two interconnected elements that support each other, lift and hold each other in balance. With different lighting, we can produce shadow effects that amplify the expression of the sculpture, making it take on an even greater dimension.
Initially, this sculpture was made of wood. The dimensions are identical between the wooden and bronze versions, and the first two elements measure 93 x 84 cm x 87 cm when assembled. They weigh 13 kg and are made of transparent black patinated bronze, which makes this sculpture particularly contemporary.8 prints + 4 artist's prints will be produced.
The sculpture can be raised and installed higher. Personally, I would prefer a maximum of 3-5 pallets of wood, depending on the height of the wall in the background, so that the Eclipse shines above the sculpture.
Sculpture 1 takes on its full dimension with the Eclipse.
The curves of the rider's arms are in harmony with the curves of the solar disk, the origin of life on earth.
All cultures have revered the sun. They were afraid of eclipses because they feared it was the end of a world.
From darkness to light, creation makes matter dance by setting it in motion.
This disk was initially carved in wood before being cast in bronze, the curve is arched (52 cm diameter) I do not underestimate its size.
There will be only 8 prints + 4 artist prints, this is print #2/12
Fixed on the wall like a wall sconce, the halo of light produced by the LEDs makes the disk float in front of the wall.
In the darkness, the bronze fades and a total solar eclipse occurs.
Because the bronze is curved and polished to a mirror finish, it creates a mirror in which we can see ourselves in our surroundings.
This is normal, we are part of the creation, we are the work that is at work, right?
