These painted works can be draped, into innumerable configurations, depending on the space in which they are exhibited. These arrangements bring the medium into the third dimension. The works are bunched up, hung by elements from ceilings and walls and left unstretched, allowing them to become environmental.
The densely textured, vibrantly colored surfaces that I construct are built up from materials salvaged from neighborhood. The collages recall the vernacular abstractions of the modernists, a collapse of historical references: from the dynamism of the Italian Futurists and the geometric abstraction of Malevich to the enveloping scale of Abstract Expressionist color field painting.
