Life
One of the best ways to present life through in visible terms is sailing. This sailboat is part of
a story that I am creating on through the theme of sailing. I have been working on it for more
than 2,000 days. This sailboat is a signature work, and different from the rest I have made.
Sailboats are associated with something beautiful. Throughout history they have been
considered symbols of beauty, symbols of fellowship. In reality, to sail such a vessel
everyone, the entire crew, must work together. Sailboats have brought us and all of the
continents, together. They have joined people around the world. They are also associated
with the gales and storms, the rising and falling that we experience in life. It is often said that
we need the wind at our backs.
With this sailboat I want to show the lives of all people: the connection of natural holes in
stone and modern cuts that I have made. This signifies the struggle of life, how life wears us
out… The sailboat looks like it is moving, and the base beneath it has been made to appear
stormy. Just like our lives… It is passing quickly, we want to get somewhere, we are flying
around, and all of this wears us out, even though at that moment we do not see it. Just like a
sailboat at sea, the salt bites into us...
We do not know where life will lead us, what is waiting for us, we are sailing through life…
We sail from a quiet port into a merciless life, and at the end we return to that quiet port…
Life is like the sea and we are only sailboats. We sail into uncertainty, in the hope of finding
something better… Hoping for a good wind in our sails... As long as we are breathing...
It is often said: hard as stone, cold as stone, beautiful as stone, eternal as stone, which slowly
fades from the weather. Life is hard, cold, beautiful and it brings us one day to eternity,
leaving behind us only traces that slowly fade away…
