The sculptural object wants to give depth to the looming problem of the accumulation of the plastic material and the difficulty of understanding that if we do not begin to have a real ethical behavior towards it and avoid its continuous new production, we will end up with being submerged.
For a year, from November 2019 to November 2020, I recovered the plastic bottles asking friends, relatives and citizens from all over Italy not to throw away the bottles they used daily and I started cutting them and then piercing them and creating this stratification. Stratification, sedimentation and accumulation are keywords for deep reflection.
The element is the size of a door, recalling Philip K. Dick in Valis, in which the writer imagines black doors that gave access to another dimension.
This "door" should give access to a dimension of conscience and knowledge, where we all have a clear idea of what the destiny of humanity will be if we do not act in time to take care and respect the planet that hosts us. Beyond this reference, its geometric shape refers to the black monolith of '2001: A Space Odyssey' by Stanley Kubrick, an object that leads the living beings with which it comes into contact to an evolution of their state as forms of life. Object of innumerable interpretations: a symbol, a totem, a plaque, a monument, a reference, a table without commandments, a milestone without distances, a stele without inscriptions. The negation of history, which, moreover, his presence seemed to initiate. It was everything and it was nothing. An ancestral and supreme symbol. The emblem of the absolute. Its infinite interpretative possibilities have allowed us to catapult ourselves into the greatest of all creations: the contemplation of the universe itself. We are in dire need of answers. But above all we need to ask ourselves the right questions: are we aware enough?
