Moss stones. Inspired by the classic Japanese garden aesthetics of the Kokedara moss garden, I develop shapes from fired clay that enable growth and strengthen the artistic effect. The moss stones in the room look like a moss-covered forest. The sculpture will be overgrown with moss and become increasingly green over time. The greening can be observed. The moss has a positive effect on the air, quality of life and living conditions. When the viewer comes closer, it is possible for him to touch the soft, rough or smooth ceramic, which is partly populated by mosses and lichen, and to be touched. The moss stones let the viewer pause, become still and attentive and feel the wholesomeness of nature. I am a visual artist and prefer to work with clay as a material glaze. The main focus of my work is the testing of the effect of the earthen material on its expressiveness. The tension between cool and cognitively planned appearance and the sensual warm charm of the material clay is the field on which I make my own artistic and creative investigations instead. It is the source of many answers.
If you associate clay with “earth”, my works ask questions about that dealing with this.Susanne Worschech. 2021. Black Vulcan Clay. Studio pottery. Handbuilt. Coiling. Stoneware. Crawling glaze. Living moss. www.studiokeramos.de
