Mirror of our time

Mirror of our time is based on research into a technique called scrying (looking into black mirrors to see into the future, communicate with (the other world, etc.). Upon deeper reflection on the topic, I came to the conclusion that the black mirror from which we can metaphorically and practically predict our future as humanity is an oil slick/puddle. Thus, an asphalt reservoir was created, where, when looked into, our own image blends with the material on which we as a society are so dependent.
