CONCEPT:
This artwork is assembled like a
puzzle with more than 200 transparent plates.
The color of this artwork changes
depending on the viewing angle and environment. The state of reflection and
transmission of this artwork also depends on the viewing angle and environment.
This phenomenon is a physical
phenomenon known as the thin film effect.
This phenomenon depends on three
parameters,
that are the
thickness of the thin film, the refractive index of the thin film, and the
angle of the light to the thin film.
The
idea
came to me about 20 years ago when I was a development engineer for liquid
crystal displays. The thin film is deposited on the
plates using a vacuum deposition method. The thickness of the thin film is
about 500nm.
In order to find the essence of
things, it is necessary to look at it from various angles. At
the
same time, I think this is also finding yourself.
This artwork is a device for that
purpose.
“A space that makes people want to
walk” is also the main concept of my artwork.
Walking is a metaphor for living and thinking.
I want people to walk, sometimes
stop and look at my artwork. The scenery
through this artwork is different for each person. I want you to see various scenery
that I have not yet seen. The scenery you see is the final form of this
artwork.
In
Japan, I created the same type of this artworks in
six locations with each concepts. The first artwork of this type was exhibited
at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art in 2016. The corridor of this
museum is set up towards the hypocenter in Hiroshima city. I exhibited there.
At
08:15 on August 6, 1945, there was an atomic bomb flash ahead of this artwork
location and at the same time the morning sun was rising behind this artwork
location.
All
parts show the corridor of the museum and the directions and angles of the two
type of light that existed at the same time in 1945. The angle of the slit is the angle of the
morning sunlight.
