Conclave explores collective decision-making, authority, and the tension between individuality and institutional structures. Inspired by the centuries-old ritual of the papal conclave, the work reflects on how communities construct systems of power, representation, and belonging.
The sculpture consists of a group of figures created through polymer-based additive manufacturing. The visible layered structure of the printing process becomes an integral part of the work, emphasizing accumulation, repetition, and collective formation. Finished with automotive paint, the figures acquire a surface that oscillates between handcrafted object, industrial product, and symbolic monument.
By combining a historical and religious reference with contemporary digital fabrication technologies, Conclaveestablishes a dialogue between tradition and innovation. The repeated forms suggest unity and consensus, while subtle variations reveal the persistence of individuality within collective systems.
Rather than depicting a specific religious event, the work addresses broader questions of leadership, representation, ritual, and social organization. It invites viewers to consider how power is negotiated within groups and how institutions shape collective identity.
