‘Grounding’ is a floor installation of in-situ cast texture from the suburban landscape (public spaces, street scapes) of Melbourne, Australia. The method of making has dissolved colour and visual association to material, the result is texture - a work specifically for touch. The intention of the work is to examine touch as a physical and emotional experience encouraging connection to Place, by grounding the participant, through walking, playing and/or performing on the installation, barefoot. Our toes and feet are loaded with nerves which rarely experience a direct connection to Country.
Note. 'Grounding' has been exhibited at 300x300cm, however, the work is variable in size, and can increase to a maximum of 500x500cm.
The artwork has been exhibited with place-specific seating for participants to take off their shoes and socks. If selected, and in conversation with the team, the artist will be able to provide complementary seating to the sculpture or discuss suitable alternatives.
